Team VERO part three

Romy

Hi everyone! My name is Romy Lauwers and I am studying Biomedical Engineering at the TU/e. Hopefully I will finish my Bachelor this quartile, by completing my Bachelor End Project (BEP) at team VERO. I was planning to do my BEP at the cardiovascular biomechanics group, but then team VERO popped up. Since I really enjoy working in a team, wanted to do experiments and am always in for a challenge, I decided to accept this BEP Proposal.
During my BEP I will compare several commercially available nebulization masks and systems on aerosol leakage in the surrounding during nebulization therapy. Using an experimental setup including a long simulator, I will perform smoke experiments to visualize the airflow in nebulizing systems around three different physical models of patient faces. The biggest challenge for me is processing of the obtained images to get insightful results.
I really like the spirit of the other team members and I am looking forward to start with the experiments!

Lex

Hello everyone! I am Lex Verberne, a Master student Mechanical Engineering at the TU/e. As the only Mechanical Engineer in the team, I like to be occupied with the practical setup of the experiments and the realization of our plans. When the corona crisis began at around March I suddenly had more free time than I could ever imagine, so why not do something useful with it? So when our dean reached out to find a student for a project about safe nebulizer systems, it certainly had my interest. And before I knew it, I was in the first of many online meetings. Although it takes quite the effort, it really motivates to see everyone from the team and a lot of other people work so hard on the project to get results. I am sure we will bring the project to a good end!
