Team VERO part four

Liza.

Hi there! My name is Liza and I can proudly tell you that I am part of Team VERO. In March, I was watching the latest Covid-19 related news (for the millionth time that day) when realizing how great it would be if students could use their (technical) knowledge to help in times of Covid-19 crisis. I got so enthusiastic about this idea, that I took the plunge by contacting some TU/e professors. That same night, the “TU/e against Covid-19” challenge was started and ended up with Team VERO.

The energy and ambition of this interdisciplinary team is great. We started from the bottom but were all not afraid to start making calls and set up meetings with clinicians and experts. This led to the challenging goal we are aiming at the moment. What I really like is the fact that we have different study backgrounds, which results in interesting meetings and discussions and, in my opinion, strengthens the work we deliver.

Next to being a team member of Team VERO, I am a master student Medical Engineering as well. By working closely together with clinicians and medical device manufacturers on this project, I already get the chance to gain some (work) experience in the medical field. However, it’s time to get back to work now. Stay tuned because we cannot wait to show you our results!

Nico
Covid times changed the daily live of many people. For me personally my daily routines are sort of on hold since the beginning of the lock down. In the early phase of the lockdown I was asked if I was willing to coach a student team that would look into COVID19 related problems and come up with solutions.
My name is Nico Schouten and I am proud to be the mentor of Team VERO.

My involvement in the mentoring of students started in 2013 when I, as an entrepreneur, was asked to help students From Fontys and Hogeschool Utrecht to coach them towards starting a business. Over the years this involvement has grown from an occasional meeting with a student to working part time for StudentsInc, the former incubator of Hogeschool Utrecht and Utrecht University.
In 2016 I got involved in coaching students from TU/e. They were looking for someone who knows how it is to run a startup and what pitfalls young entrepreneurs need to avoid to bridge the gap between the design phase and actual sales of the product or service. For Team VERO it helps that I have been working as a technician in healthcare in the past.
